Pontoon ferry at Vernon
Here we see a pontoon ferry being used to move a bulldozer across the Seine at Vernon. The damaged road bridge can be seen in the background, and could be used by men on foot but not by vehicles. The ferry would have crossed the river at 90 degrees to this position, then rotated into this position to allow the vehicle to drive off.
