Plans of Lord Nelson Class Battleship
These plans show the Lord Nelson class battleships of 1906, an important stage in the development of the all-big gun dreadnought. The previous British battleships, the King Edward VII class, had been armed with four 12in guns, four 9.2in guns and ten 6in guns. On the Lord Nelson class ships that was altered to four 12in guns carried in twin turrets fore and after and ten 9.2in guns, carried in two twin and one single turret on each side. The next logical step was to replace the 9.2in guns with 12in guns, producing HMS Dreadnought.
