Plans of Drake Class First Class Armoured Cruisers

Plans of Drake Class First Class Armoured Cruisers
These plans show the Drake class first class armoured cruisers of 1901. These were larger versions of the previous Cressy class, carrying two 9.2in guns in single turrets fore and aft and sixteen 6in guns carried in four double-story casemates on each side. This looked like an elegant way to carry a large number of guns, allowing the pairs to share facilities, but in service the lower guns, on the main deck, could only be used in calm seas. In heavy seas they were too wet to be used.
