Air Strike for Operation Goodwood (Naval)

Here we see a formation of Fleet Air Arm strike aircraft on their way to attempt to attack the Tirpitz during the Royal Navy's Operation Goodwood. This saw the Navy carry out a series of attacks on the Tirpitz between 22 August and 29 August 1944, without causing any significant damage to the battleship (although one 1,600lb bomb did penetrate five decks into the Tirpitz but failed to explode). To the right we see a war emergency type destroyer, part of the sizable fleet that supported the operation.
