Maul Camera Rocket

Maul Camera Rocket

Here we see an early Maul Camera Rocket, developed in Germany by Alfred Maul in 1903-1904. A black powder rocket carried the camera into the air. A parachute would then deploy and the camera would descend. A camera controlled the timing of the pictures. One example was tested in action during the Balkan Wars, but reconnaissance aircraft quickly made it obsolete.
