Marking troop positions near Caen, 7 August 1944
Here we see Very Lights and streams of tracer fire being used to mark the position of Allied topops near Caen before the attack by RAF heavy bombers on 7 August 1944. The longer streams of tracer fire were meant to guide the ground troops along the correct routes at the start of Operation Totalize.
