Kaibokan Type C from the Right
Here we see a Kaibokan Type C, the fifth class of 'ocean defense ships' to be produced for the Imperial Japanese Navy. They were a simplified version of the previous types, with the aim of speeding up production. Fifty three were completed during the war, of which 26 were sunk. From this angle we can see the two 4.7in guns, and the general layout of the ship. The Type C was built alongside the Type D, which had a thinner funnel nearer the superstructure.
