Here we see the River class destroyer HMS Liffey showing the second configuration of the class, with the low sponsons for the guns either side of the bridge removed and the deck built up to allow the guns to be carred at foredeck level. This made them much easier to operation in rough seas - the low sponsons had been very wet.
