HMS Exeter, 1934, Panama Canal Zone
Here we see the heavy cruiser HMS Exeter at Balboa in the Panama Canal Zone in 1934. HMS Exeter is most famous for her role in the Battle of the River Plate, where she was the most powerful British ship present. She was later lost at the Second Battle of the Java Sea in March 1942. In the background is the Clemson class destroyer USS Truxtun (DD-229).
