Here we see the Grumman XF4F-3 in flight. This was the third design of prototype of the F4F, after the biplane XF4F-1 and failed XF4F-2 monoplane. The -3 was the basis for the succesful F4F Wildcat family, the only US carrier fighter when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.
