Douglas 'Grubby' Grice was a fighter pilot based at Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain. He crash landed twice during his fighter career, including once in France. On a third occasion he was forced to bale out after his aircraft caught fire, suffering burns that meant he never flew again.
