Douglas Dakotas of SAAF Shuttle Service (1 of 2)

Here we see a row of Douglas Dakotas from the SAAF shuttle service at Tabora, Tanzania, in January 1946. The open door on the nearest aircraft shows how awkward an angle it was at, due to the tail wheel landing gear and the resulting high position of the nose.

Many thanks to Michael Hopkins for sending us these pictures, which came from his father's collection, and came towards the end of his RAF service, which lasted from August 1941 to November 1946.
