Damaged Dry Dock at Naples, 1944
Here we see a dry dock damaged by the Germans before they abandoned Naples after the Allied victory at Salerno in the autumn of 1943. The dry dock gates were destroyed and a minesweeper, schooner and barge sunk in the dock. By the time this picture was taken the Royal Navy had repaired the gates, and it only took eight days to refloat the minesweeper.
