Engraving of Adam-Philippe, comte de Custine, 1740-1793
This engraving shows Adam-Philippe, comte de Custine, an early Republican commander during the French Revolutionary Wars who was arrested, tried and executed as a result of a number of military failures combined with an attempt to reform the Army of the North by expelling politically radical but militarily useless officers.
