Curtiss NC-3 at Ponta Delgada, May 1919
This picture of the Curtiss NC-3 flying boat was taken at Ponta Delgada in May 1919 from the Wickes class destroyer USS Harding (DD-91). The aircraft had been forced to put down 200 miles away from the Azores, but had reached the islands under her own power. One aircraft, NC-4, completed the first trans-Atlantic flight.
