J C Porte in front of Curtiss H-1 America
Here we see the Curtiss H-1 America flying boat with J C Porte in front of the bow facing the camera. At this point Porte was a former Royal Naval officer who had joined Curtiss for the planned trans-Atlantic flight of the H-1, but after the outbreak of war in 1918 he returned to the UK and played a major role in the development of the flying boat service and of the Felixstowe F boats.
