Curtiss H-1 America, Lake Keuka, Hammondsport, 1914
Here we see the Curtiss H-1 America in fight over Lake Keuka, Hammondsport, in 1914. The H-1 was built to attempt to fly across the Atlantic, but the outbreak of the First World War ended that plan. It was then purchased by the Royal Navy and became the first in a long family of flying boats that served (in a much developed form) into the Second World War.
