This picture shows Air Vice-Marshal A. Coningham (left), command of the Desert Air Force and Lt Gen N.M. Ritchie, commandeer of the Eighth Army, at some point during (or very soon after) Operation Crusader, the second great British victory in North Africa.
Air Vice-Marshal A. Coningham (left) was commander of No.204 Group in the Middle East from July 1941 and commander of the Desert Air Force from September 1941 until early 1943.
Lt Gen N.M. Ritchie was commander of the Eighth Army between November 1941 and June 1942, taking over during Operation Crusader.
