Crane clearing the Hindenburg Bridge, Rudesheim
Here we see a crane about to winch away part of the demolished Hindenburg Bridge at Rudesheim. The bridge was heavily bombed by the Allies, then destroyed by the Germans to delay the American crossing of the Rhine and never rebuilt. The ruins were removed by US engineers in the summer of 1945 to help reopen the Rhine to essential traffic
