Close-up view of Char B1 Bis from the front

Here we see a close-up view of a Char B1 bis from the front giving us a good view of its two main guns - the short 75mm gun in the hull front and 47mm anti-tank gun in the turret. Although this was an effective weapon in 1940, the one man turret reduced its effectiveness in combat by forcing the tank commander to also act as gunner and loader.

Picture from the author's collection. The tank is in the collection of the very impressive Bovington Tank Museum
