British Troops on London Buses, c.1914
The most famous example of soldiers being moved by public transport was the use of the Paris taxis during the Battle of the Marne, but that wasn't the only example. Here we see a convoy of London buses carrying British troops. This picture shows De Dion buses and probably comes from the War Office Trials of 1908, the first large scale attempt to move British troops using public transport. Many thanks to Bill Ward for providing this extra information.
