This engraving of a picture by J. Hoppner
shows General Sir Ralph Abercromby, 1734-1801, one of the best British commanders of the Revolutionary Wars. He was most famous for completing the defeat of the French in Egypt, although he was mortally wounded at the key Second battle of Aboukir, 8 March 1801.
