USS Yorktown (CV-5) and USS Jacob Jones (DD-130), 1937
This picture shows the carrier USS Yorktown (CV-5) and the Wickes class destroyer USS Jacob Jones (DD-130) at pier 7, Naval Operating Base Virginia during the Yorktown's commissioning ceremony on 30 September 1937. This picture gives a very clear idea of the difference in scale between the elderly destroyer and the brand new carrier - the Yorktown's crew are currently taking up more space on the flight deck than would be required for the Jacob Jones!
