USS Whipple (DD-217) and USS Smith Thompson (DD-212) at Dewey Dry Dock after 1936 Collision
Here we see the Clemson class destroyer USS Whipple (DD-217) on the left and USS Smith Thompson (DD-212) on the right in the Dewey floating dry dock at Subic Bay on 17 April 1936. The Smith Thompson had been rammed by the Whipple on 14 April, and towed to safety. Although the Smith Thompson has the most obvious damage, the Smith Thompson was actually must more badly damaged, and it was decided not to repair her. She was scuttled off Subic Bay on 25 July 1936.
