Here we see officers relaxing in the officer's mess on the Colorodo class battleship USS West Virginia (BB-48). The date may be in European format, placing this picture in July 1942, as she wasn't refloated until 17 May 1942, or this was a temporary mess above the water line! It does look rather basic for an officer's mess, and the rifles in the background suggest a high level of tension.
