USS Walke (DD-723) off Mare Island, 1945
Here we see the Allen M Sumner destroyer USS Walke (DD-723) off Mare Island on 23 March 1945, after repairs to damage caused by kamikaze attacks on 6 January 1945 while she was supporting the landings at Lingayen Gulf on Luzon. This picture shows her in her original configuration, with a pole mast and the typical wartime radar on top of the gunnery director. From the side was can also see the layouy of her three twin turrets, and the widely spread torpedo tubes.
