Female Marines and WAVES on USS Tripoli, 1944
Here we see a group of WAVES and female Marines during a visit to the Casablanca class escort carrier USS Tripoli (CVE-64) on 2 January 1944. The carrier was then at San Diego after her shakedown cruiser, and on 4 January she suffered a major fire triggered when fuel was dumped into the water and then ignited by acetylene torch sparks.
