USS Tennessee (BB-43) bombarding Okinawa
Here we see the Tennessee class battleship USS Tennessee (BB-43) taking part in the bombardment of Okinawa on 1 April 1945. This gives us a good view of the impressive array of guns she carried by this stage, with her main turrets joined by eight twin 5in gun turrets, four on each side, and an amazing number of smaller anti-aircraft guns which can be seen cluttered along the side of the superstructure, and identified by the bright fronts of their gun shields.
