Loading bomb onto OS2U Kingfisher on USS Stevens (DD-479)
Here we see a crewman loading a small bomb onto a Vought OS2U Kingfisher being carried on a catapult on the Fletcher class destroyer USS Stevens (DD-479). This came during an attempt to install aircraft handling gear on some of the Fletcher class destroyers, but problems with the gear eventually meant that the plans were abandoned. This picture shows some of the difficulties that would have been encountered attempting to operate even a small floatplane from a destroyer!
