Here we see the Essex class carrier USS Shangri La (CV-38) off Maryport, Florida, in August 1960, with Combat Air Group 10 embarked. On deck we see a mix of Vought F8U Crusaders, Douglas F4D Skyrays, Douglas A4D Skyhawks and Douglas AD Skyraider aircraft. By this point her original straight flight deck has been replaced with an angled deck, amd we can clearly see the advantage of that system here, with the forward deck filled with aircraft, but the angled deck still clear for air operations.
