USS Saratoga (CV-3) at Ford Island, 1945
Here we see the Lexington class carrier USS Saratoga (CV-3) at NAS Ford Island at Pearl Harbor in June 45, the month she returned to Pearl after being turned into a training carrier. This had been done because she had suffered extensive damage off Iwo Jima in January 1945, and the Navy had decided that it wasn't worth returning her to combat status as they now had plenty of newer Essex class carriers.
