USS Saratoga (CC-3), 8 March 1922
Here we see one of the armoured barbettes of the Lexington class battlecruiser USS Saratoga (CC-3) on her deck on 8 March 1922. By this point the order to stop building her as a battlecruiser had been issued, but the order to complete her as an aircraft carrier was yet to be issued, so she was in limbo. This view gives an rare chance to see the scale of the armoured barbettes that were normally hidden within the structure of battleships and battlecruisers.
