Bridge and Foremast of USS Portland (CA-33) during 1933 refit
Here we see the bridge structure and foremast of the USS Portland (CA-33), name ship of the Portland class of heavy cruisers during her 1933 refit. Even at this early day the area was quite cluttered, and things only got worse as radar and other items of electronic warfare competed for space.
