Landing Party from USS Pope (DD-225), Hankow, 1927
Here we see a landing party from the Clemson class destroyer USS Pope (DD-225), armed with Lewis Guns, BARs and Springfield Rifles. This landing party was used at Hankow, China, in 1927, when Chinese Nationalist troops captured the city (now part of Wuhan), during the Northern Expedition. This period saw the British Concession in the city overrun, and although it was restored to join control for a couple of years, the British involvement officially ended in 1929.
