USS Nicholas (DD-449) firing on Japanese aircraft at night
Here we see the Fletcher class destroyer USS Nicholas (DD-449) firing on Japanese aircraft during the night of 23 August 1943. The action took place in the Central Solomon Islands. This shows the flash caused by her 5in guns even when using flashless powder.
