5in Casemate Gun, USS Nevada (BB-36)
Here we see a gun crew exercising with a 5in casemate gun on the Nevada class battleship USS Nevada (BB-36). As this picture shows, the use of casemates meant that there was plenty of space to work the gun, but they also tended to be very wet in high seas or at high speed, making them less usable than turret guns which were generally carried one deck higher and were less vulnerable to flooding.
