USS Missouri (BB-63) aground on Thimble Shoals

Here we see the Iowa class battleship USS Missouri (BB-63) after she ran aground on Thimble Shoals on 17 January 1950, on her first training exercise at sea after being overhauled late in 1949. She was refloated on 1 February and allocated to training duties. However the outbreak of the Korean War later in the year meant that she was soon back in action.
