WAVES in Pilothouse of USS Mission Bay (CVE-59)
Here we see a group of WAVES being shown the pilothouse of the Casablanca class escort carrier USS Mission Bay (CVE-59) during a guided tour on 20 August 1944. Views of the interiors of these ships are fairly rare. The WAVES were officially members of the United States Naval Reserve (Women's Reserve), but were better known as Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service.
