USS Minneapolis (CA-36) with short bow, January 1943

Here we see the temporary bow installed on the New Orleans class heavy cruiser USS Minneapolis (CA-36) after she lost her original bow at the Battle of Tassafaronga (30 November 1942). This picture was taken at Espiritu Santo in January 1943, only two months after the battle. By April 1943 a new permanent bow had been installed, and she was soon ready to return to combat.
