Mine damage to USS Mansfield (DD-728), Korea
This dramatic picture shows the damage done to the Allen M Sumner class destroyer USS Mansfield (DD-728) after she hit a mine off Wonsan during the Korean War. The blast has blown a hole all the way through the hull, doing so much damage that the bow had to be removed and replaced with a temporary 'stub' bow so she could return to the US for repairs.
