USS Longshaw (DD-559) after magazine explosion, 1945

Here we see the Fletcher class destroyer USS Longshaw (DD-559) three minutes after her magazine blew up after being hit by Japanese shore batteries on Okinawa on 18 May 1945. The Longshaw was stranded on a coral reef at the time, and eventually had to be abandoned.
