USS Langley (CV-1) and USS Somers (DD-301)

USS Langley (CV-1) and USS Somers (DD-301)
Here we see the first American aircraft carrier USS Langley (CV-1) with Vought VE-7 fighters on her deck. In the background is the Clemson class destroyer USS Somers (DD-301), which gives some idea of the size of even these earlier carriers. The picture might have been taken off San Diego in 1928, although the VE-7 was withdrawn in that year and only three were still with the Langley by then.
