This picture shows the Wickes class destroyer USS Lamberton (DMS-2) at the Mare Island Navy Yard on 4 May 1945, the day that the Germans surrendered to Montgomery on Luneburg Heath, perhaps explaining the display of flags (which appears to read 'Navy').
