USS Kearsarge (BB-5) as Crane Ship No.1, Panama Canal, 1930s
Here we see the Kearsarge class battleship USS Kearsarge (BB-5) in the Panama Canal in the late 1930s, after she had been converted into a crane ship. From this angle we get a good view of the 10ft wide blisters that were added to increase her stability, as well as an idea of the scale of her new crane, capable of lifting weights of up to 250 tons.
