USS Hulbert (ADV-6) aground in Massacre Bay, 1943
Here we see the Clemson class destroyer USS Hulbert (AVD-6) after she was forced ashore by a gale at Massacre Bay on Attu. She ran aground on 30 June, but this picture was taken at low tide at some point in July, during the prolonged rescue attempt. At this point she was partly being kept upright by sand that had banked up around her hull!
