USS Halligan (DD-584) aground off Tokashiki Island, March 1945
Here we see the stern of the Fletcher class destroyer USS Halligan (DD-584) after she ran aground on Tokashiki Island, to the west of Okinawa, the day after hitting a mine on 26 March 1945. The front of the ship was blow off as far back as the forward stack, and half of the crew were killed. This picture gives us a good view of the flat stern and the top of the propellers.
