USS Gilmer (APD-11) and USS Zellars (DD-777) at Okinawa, 30 March 1945
Here we see the Clemson class destroyer USS Gilmer (APD-11) on the left and the Allen M. Sumner class destroyer USS Zellers (DD-777) on the right, bombarding Okinawa on 30 March 1945. The massive explosion above the Zellers probably comes from a more powerful munition or an exploding Japanese ammo dump.
