Japanese picture of USS Edsall (DD-219) sinking, 1 March 1942
This picture of the Clemson class destroyer USS Edsall (DD-219) sinking is a still from a short film taken from the Japanese cruiser Tone, one of the fleet involved in her destruction. The Edsall had been escorting the carrier USS Langley (CV-1) off Java when the carrier was badly damaged by a Japanese air attack and had to be scuttled. Many of the survivors from the Langley were lost when the Edsall was sunk, after running into a powerful Japanese fleet.
