Refugees from Smyrna on USS Edsall (DD-219), 1922
Here we see refugees from the fighting in Smyrna in 1922 on the Clemson class destroyer USS Edsall (DD-219). The Greeks had landed at Smyrna in 1919 at the start of an attempt to conquer parts of Anatolia, but by 1922 had been defeated and were forced to withdraw.
