Port Engine Room, USS Dale (DD-4)
Here we see the port engine room on the Bainbridge class destroyer USS Dale (DD-4), seen while the ship was fitting out in 1901. Here we see part of one of the vertical triple expansion engines that powered the ship. The cylinders are the at the top, with pistons heading down to the port propeller shaft. Note the skylight above the engine.
